Vader Boy

Untitled

Vader Boy opened on May the 4th at Secret Fresh Gallery, which is in Ronac Art Center in San Juan. Secret Fresh invited a bunch of artists to let loose on Vader heads (I think the blank heads might be available for purchase? I’m not sure) and use them as they would a blank canvas. The results are pretty awesome.

I participated in two similar projects before, one using a skull as a base (as in Dia de los Muertos) and one using a blank Munny. It’s always interesting to see what everyone comes up with after you go through your own process.

This project was done in conjunction with Imagine Nation Studios. It also officially launched VADERBOY, a 14-inch limited edition toy (30 pcs, 5 one-of-a-kind exclusive versions), and VADERHEADS D.I.Y. that are available for purchase in case these customized VADERHEADS inspires you. A Vaderboy costs Php 12,500, but you can get a Vaderhead for Php 1,000.

The participating artists are:

We had dinner next door at Lunchbox, I think. It was alright. I had a milquetoast~ but only because the salad I wanted was no longer available.

We then went to the top floor to look for some Vans. (But they were closed.)

Here are some of the Stormtroopers (from the last show) up on display again:

It’s always interesting seeing different artist renditions of the same object or subject. It really opens your eyes up to the truth that everyone looks at life through different eyes. Setting a limitation assigns a sort of “control variable,” something to set everything against and see just how different everyone is.
