2012: JANUARY GOALS.

January 3, 2012 | in which i try out something new.

January Goals.

This year, I have decided not to make any resolutions, partly because I don’t follow them anyway. Rather, I thought about what my 2011 had been and thought about what I had learned and experienced, and how I could make my 2012 better. So, instead, I have GOALS.

My head is a muddle right now, so I don’t feel very comfortable sharing my big, long-term goals. I also believe in keeping some things secrets for the time being. Anyway, I’m copying an LJ friend who had been doing a monthly goals type of thing for a few years now.

Doing Monthly Goals instead of Yearly Resolutions is helpful because it gives you a chance to review your progress more closely and also to regroup after each month. Big, yearly resolutions are harder to keep track of, but I think it’s good to have overarching goals each year, to kind of direct you towards specific choices. Arriane actually does annual thematic overhauls, which I think is super interesting, but a little intimidating and overwhelming for a first timer like me. Maybe next year.

As for myself, here are my JANUARY GOALS:

  • Read 7 books.
  • Go on the treadmill at least 3 times a week. (I’ll explain later.)
  • Get two big projects. YAY.
  • Work six hours a day, five days a week. (Or a total of thirty hours a week.)
  • Save 50% of each paycheck.
  • Write down all expenses. Begin accounting.
  • Mail out all pending packages.
  • Fix/fine-tune Recovery.
  • Writing project with Liana.
  • Maybe revive Maybe Very Happy.

Hey Carina, any plans of reviving warmest corner with Miss Petra? Or transferring it to Tumblr? Huge fan, obvi.

    • Carina Santos says:

Hey Lia, thanks for the support. I actually have to check with Petra re: that. I somehow doubt that this will happen, but you never know. :)

I was actually just thinking of doing these myself! I have a list of resolutions as well, but this year I sat down and planned out how and hopefully when I was going to reach them.

A lot of your goals are really similar to mine as well! Good luck!

Hi! Are you good in drawing? I’m not. But I’ve always wanted crafts (e.g origami and collage) and always have this thing for art. But I’m kinda intimidated because I can’t draw.. Though I would really love to know how to draw, paint and stuff it’s just that I really don’t have a talent on that. I really love the pieces on your exhibit. I’m actually from Cebu so I wasnt able to see it personally. You inspire me to try to do those stuff :)

    • vortex says:

lol Kev, are we describing me? coz I’m from Cebu too so I wasn’t able to see Carina’s exhibit even if I wanted to (so much!). And she inspires me to make some art as well, even if I’m not very good at it.

Happy new year, @presidents! and to you too, kev.

    • Carina Santos says:

I don’t know how to draw, which is why I paint. :) Have you tried? It takes a while to get good but sometimes, all you need to do is to just keep on doing things.

Thank you for the kind words, anyway. :)

Uhm, yes, you SHOULD revive Maybe Very Happy. :)

    Happy New Year Carina!!

I love that idea of having monthly goals! I also make yearly themes (This is “The Year for Extra Happiness” for me; last year was my year for “creativity”) and it sort of guides me with my goal/resolution-making and also gives me a sense of general “focus” for the year. This reminds me of the monthly goals that Gretchen Rubin had in her Happiness Project. Her book, The Happiness Project is actually what inspired me to do my own happiness project. Check out that book, you might like it too, and you might find it useful for maybeveryhappy (which I also love, btw) :) Happy New Year!

Happy new year, Carina! I like this monthly goals thing. One step at a time. :)

  7. Allie says:

Hi Carina! This post of yours inspired me to do my own monthly goal posts, because I too am a bit reluctant to sharing my bigger goals with the rest of the world. :s

Cheers to starting something new! Happy New Year! :)

I’m always captivated with the photos and projects in your blog Carina! :3

Anyhoo, me too! I would love to get back to reading. I used to read every day/night. :( Too tired, lazy and also, iphone is such a distraction that I stopped reading. Sad times!

“Write down all expenses. Begin accounting” – I’ve tried different iphone apps for this. Works wonder!

As for my paycheck, 50% goes to my monthly house bills. Boo! And, the other half goes to my Mom, which I owe shit loads of money! Lol

    • Carina Santos says:

      Thank you, Sarah. :)

I love my iPhone, but I know what you mean. Someone recently did an experiment (complete cut-off from the Internet and her mobile for a week), and she managed to read three books and do so much more.

What app do you use? I use Saver and it’s the best one I’ve used so far. :)

Haha I make it a point to not owe people money. You’ll pay stuff off ASAP, for sure! I’m lucky I don’t really have to contribute to house bills, though.

  11. Hey Carina, the Mint website/app is really great for keeping track of expenses. You can hook it up to your bank account to auto-track each purchase or deposit you make, woot! It aggregates the data into charts and graphs. I was wary about it at first but supposedly it’s secure.

    • Carina Santos says:

I checked it out, and just as I suspected, only available for Canadians and the US of A! There’s a similar banking app/program, but it can’t be linked with my bank. Thank you so much, though.
