The Sunday Currently Vol. 23

I’m a little shy of 200 pages in J.J. Abrams and Doug Dorst’s S and holy frakking shit, you guys, it’s so good. IDK if I just gravitate towards “gimmicky” books that play with format and design and… you get what I mean. But, I am in love with this one. I’ve had to put the book down for a few minutes every so often because I have to collect myself, silently flailing over how much I loved what I just read.

Anyway. It’s great. I want to bring it to the office tomorrow to read on my lunch break but I don’t think it would be the best thing to do, as I’m super clumsy + it’s very heavy.

Some writing assignments due last week that I owe people. I’m so sorry, I’m working on it.

Some Halsey, but nothing new… I don’t think. In other news, I really don’t like the new look of!

Nothing because I have allergic rhinitis.

My trash heart watched America’s Next Top Model (Cycle 22, the new one!) with my sister. I’ve got Interstellar waiting for me when I get the time. And no, I haven’t seen Inside Out.

… that I wasn’t such a night owl. Things would be way easier. I’ve been awake for like 14 hours and I just want to get work done now, as opposed to hours ago, when it would have made sense to do stuff.

I wake up early enough tomorrow to do a bit of exercise and eat a good breakfast and have enough time to make my makeup look nice, but we all know what’s going to happen.

Old tank & boxers that I’ve been wearing for entirely too long a time that I don’t care to admit here.

SNAPCHAAAAT. I finally put it on my phone instead of just on my iPad so I foresee a lot of snapping from me in the future. I mean, maybe. I have an iPhone 4, though, so everything feels like it’s in slow motion.

I’m all good.

A more organized mind.

A suspicious mix of excitement and terror.

  • Why do you feel excitement and terror? Btw it’s my off and I have to work tomorrow again so I’m not really working forward to MOnday

    • Haha just because of things happening in my life at the time. Sorry work sucks! :(

  • Hi Carina! That JJ Abrams book seems really interesting. What are the other “gimmicky” books you can recommend? Thanks!

    • Haha well, I don’t really think they’re gimmicky—like the unconventional formats work for them—but “Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close” by Jonathan Safran Foer is one. And although I haven’t finished it, I really liked reading “House of Leaves” by Mark Z. Danielewski. Then there’s JSF’s “Tree of Codes,” which is more of an exercise of language than an actual novel (in my opinion).

      • I’m familiar with the movie adaptation of Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close. Thanks for all the suggestions! I’m taking note of these 3! :)

  • Omg I have the same book!! I just haven’t read it yet but I really find it interesting :)

    • Hope you get to read it soon!

  • Hi! :) Was hopping around The Sunday Currently entries online and found myself here! How are you reading S? Story first? Story with margins? Margins first? I’ve had the book for a while now but I’m so overwhelmed!! hahaha

    • Hiya Mikli! I’m doing a simultaneous read. It was fine at first but I got really impatient towards the last few chapters. A lot of people recommended giving the main narrative a read first, then hopping over to the margins, but it was just too much work for me. Hehe. It’s a good story, for what it’s worth. :)
